Here are Some Things to Consider :

  • Removal and disposal of any old or dying plant material, grass, in the bed area, etc.
  • Would it be best to spray Round-up in the area prior to planting, to get rid of nuisance grasses and weeds?
  • Is the soil, heavy clay, silty loam, or a sandy mix? Amendments needed?
  • What kind of light does the area get during the daytime, from morning to dusk?
  • Is there any reason for water to sit in or drain rapidly away from the site?
  • What type of edging do you want to use for the bed, if any at all?
  • Weedmat will eliminate most weed and grass problems, if it is not used, what will you do to control weeds?
  • What type of mulching will be used: mulch, rock, etc.? How much is needed?
  • Is the time of year appropriate for the project?
